The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad Cyclops Ray Harryhausen Icons Concept Maquette

A rare, original 7th Voyage of Sinbad Cyclops Ray Harryhausen Icons concept maquette produced in 1997, 23 years ago.

Icons goal was to produce a complete line of 1:1 scale maquettes based on the original stop motion puppet miniatures preserved and archived by the legendary Ray Harryhausen. For discussion purposes, this conceptual piece was molded, cast and placed on a display base to show to Sony (Columbia) licensing. Painted and bronze statues were planned.

In 1998, Icons also designed a comprehensive Toy line based on the Harryhausen films, which would have been produced through Icons proposed Toy division "Neverwere Toys". Rendered by Icons in-house illustrator Tone Rodriguez.

Interestingly "6" Icons employees after leaving the company upon it's closure, went on to work at the collectibles company Gentle Giant, during it's early formative year, where the Harryhausen maquette product line was eventually produced, including in bronze.

This piece has never been publicly exhibited other than at Icons conference room in Sunland and North Hollywood until shown here on the Icons Museum blog.

  2. This piece is incredible. A great idea for a replica line. Wish Icons had been able to produce these as either stop motion puppets or film maquette statues. This pre-dates Gentle Giant's Ray Harryhausen line.
